Cabin Boy

Oh I guess I should mention that yes, I did go to Cabin Boy on Saturday, and, having not made much of an effort to find someone to go with, I went alone. Knowing that it was sold-out made it a bit easier since I figured I might be able to make someone looking for a ticket happy. I got tired of waiting in the lobby, though, so I just told the ticket girl to give it away to anyone that needed it.

I thought about what clever thing I should say or ask to Chris as he signed my book, but gave up quickly. I ended up telling him how much I enjoyed his TV show and he thanked me for that. Good enough, I can say I talked to him.

They had half an hour of Q&A before the movie. He provided some insight into why "Cabin Boy" turned out to be such a mess. [He didn't appear to be too proud of it, and probably left the theater before the movie even started] It turns out Tim Burton was supposed to direct it, but bailed as things got started. Most of the big time director budget left with him, and the new director, Chris' friend, had no directing experience. So that explains alot. When asked about "Get a Life!" Chris stated he didn't realize how many fans of the show there were, and that while making some of the shows he wasn't too impressed with them, but now when he watches, he is surprised how well they turned out. Apparently, he just got done with audio commentary on a new DVD of season one. I can't wait! When pressed for his favorite episode, he didn't commit to any in particular but did bring up the submarine episode being one he liked. Apparently that was also the episode that got Tim Burton interested in making a movie with Chris. He also noted how he pitched the show to FOX--as a show about a 30-year old with a child's sense of adventure, trying to help his friend enjoy life. Rather than the actual show about an insane guy with insane parents surrounded by an insane town.
