Wisconsin Hoops
I've got an extra ticket. Anyone want to go see Wisconsin vs. Texas on Saturday? You will not be allowed to wear burnt orange.

Winged Hooters (Owls)
"And We Danced" / The Hooters
This one must be part of the playlist for obvious reasons. Note that this song features a melodica (which you may have seen me play occasionally). Coincidentally enough, the melodica also is known as a "hooter."
I just looked up The Hooters on wikipedia, and apparently they named themselves after this nickname for the melodica, and not owls as I had previously thought.

I Hate Bowling
I think I summed up Monday nights very well tonight when I said to a teammate "What could possibly be more fun than doing something you suck at for three hours every week?"
Even after I finally bowled above my average on the third game (when I had enough to drink and was throwing the ball as hard as I could), my mood remained bitter. I bought a ball (and shoes) a year ago so that I could get better, and that hasn't happened. Even if I did get better, what does that get me? Better at something I don't give a shit about! Like I need to feel miserable about one more stupid thing.

METV
I thought I would mention how lucky Austin is to have METV. It's like MTV was in the 80's (and MTV2 was in the 90's--but I don't have that on basic cable now). All music videos, all the time. They have specific genre programs alot of the time, but sometimes it is more eclectic. Tonight I was telling @G during the.story.of show (great band BTW) that I had just seen a video of one of the bands that played earlier there on METV. After I got home I turned on the TV and recognized Kathryn who I saw as part of the New Pornographers at Fun Fun Fun Fest. It was a video from her band Immaculate Machine. Rewinding TiVo to the beginning of the video I noticed that beforehand they had the NP video "Use It" from their last album Twin Cinema. Both of these were a great surprise ending to a fun night.

Ugly Schools
Here is a fun list of the twenty ugliest colleges in the US. I know people that went to three of these ugly colleges, and I've actually seen two others in person.

Wing Away
"Got to Get you into my Life" / Earth, Wind & Fire
The Beatles' original is fading from my memory fast. I just don't hear it anymore. So, it's no surprise that I had forgotten about EW&F's cover which "showcases EW&F's signature groove in a way to make it their own, yet it remains true to the original." (text in quotes as I'm sure some music critic has written that one before)
"Why Can't we be Friends?" / Smash Mouth
Nothing special about this one, other than when it started I thought it was the original version. After this song, some benign newer song played. Then, the original version (by "War") played. Who programs a set like this? Also, I want to write a sequel titled "Can We All Get Along?" and perform it on the 20th anniversary of Rodney King's LAPD beatdown.
"The Rockafeller Skank" / Fatboy Slim
I was going to write something about the feeling of recognizing a sound sample in a song (in this case, one of the guitar samples) but, after looking it up, I don't think it is what I thought it was. I will have to listen to the tracks listed on the wikipedia page and figure this out.
"One Week" / Barenaked Ladies
Not much to say about the song particularly, other than it is original and different, and I don't think anyone would notice if they forgot to remove the click track (maybe they did?) The reason I brought this one up is to mention I have a memory of this song being all over the radio. And I remember that because it is part of one of those little things that happens when you get back from a long deployment. All the songs on the radio are completely different from the ones that were on when you left, you have to quickly relearn how to drive your car, etc.
